Suzette Émond
was born in Chicoutimi in 1947. During her teenage
years, she began her artistic training with Mr. Henri
Mongrain and worked with a variety of mediums. Painting
with oils and the use of a painting knife is her
chosen technique since 1985.
Suzette's art takes life under the generous swath of the painting knife. Wide
strips of the spatula color the space in a bounding relief that grabs the light.
As the same time as color bursts set space on fire, the purpose of that movement
changes: from the basic priority that it was, it slowly becomes the unique and
abstract subject of a painting. The beauty of the original gesture blossoms under
the palm of her hand. Suzette's entire energy is expressed in deep reds crossed
with bursts of yellow, green and blue — like so many dabs of light, freed
the moment they surge from the artist's spatula.
Suzette's works can be found in several
public and private collections, including the prestigious Loto-Québec
collection as well as many others in Canada,
United States and Europe.
