Miranda Urbanski is a contemporary Canadian painter with
an international perspective. Born in Toronto in 1983, she
earned her academic credentials in Canada – a BFA from
Queen’s University in 2006, a Graduate Certificate
in New Media Design from Sheridan College’s School
of Animation and Design in 2007 and an MFA from the University
of Waterloo expected in the spring of 2009. Summers spent
studying in Italy at the Queen's Venice Art School and the
Lorenzo de’Medici Art Institute in Florence provide
solid experience in the classical painting techniques of
the Italian tradition while her recent internship at the
Slade School of Fine Art, University College London, England
has reinforced and cultivated her commitment to contemporary
figurative painting.
Much of Miranda's body of
work focuses on large figure painting that explore the
dynamics of the connection between body and mind. Her
work is influenced by her practice of yoga and philosophy.
Through her painting Miranda seeks a greater understanding of
self and her relationship within the greater human community. |
